Interrail for Europe

On 4 October in Strasbourg, the members of the European Parliament and EU Transport Commissioner Violeta Bulc addressed a proposal from MEP Manfred Weber (EPP, DE) to launch a new EU-financed programme granting a free Interrail pass to young Europeans when they turn 18.

CER Executive Director Libor Lochman said: "For decades hundreds of thousands of young Europeans have been discovering Europe on Interrail tickets, exploring its cultural diversity and heritage. The European railways have always played an important and ever increasing role in bringing people together across borders and thus bringing Europe closer together. Should there be a political consensus to launch a European youth support programme using Interrail as a means to strengthen the European identity of the young generation, CER and its members would welcome this initiative".
