Climate change & standardisation - A sector position paper

Climate change, as a significant and lasting change in the weather patterns, will have an impact on the European transport system affecting all modes of transport (air, road, rail and waterborne). A significant change in weather conditions (i.e. more extreme weather events) is foreseen. On the one hand, as a general approach, measures have to be taken to reduce climate change by decreasing emissions in order to reduce the effects of global warming; on the other hand initial steps have to be taken to adapt to climate change by preparing measures and methods for a robust European transport system.
