CER Position - Proposal for a Regulation on TEN-T Guidelines
The Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on Union guidelines for the development of the trans-European transport network, amending Regulation (EU) 2021/1153 and Regulation (EU) No 913/2010 and repealing Regulation (EU) 1315/2013 (TEN-T Regulation), puts forward timely and necessary revisions to Europe’s TEN-T to ensure modal shift to more sustainable transport modes and achieve the European Green Deal’s ambitious climate targets by 2050.
The Proposal represents a great improvement of the current situation with many positive aspects that improve infrastructure as the backbone of mobility in the EU. The sector supports elements of the Regulation such as connectivity and development of the regions including last mile-connections, multimodality and enhanced urban nodes, connections with third countries, synergies between European Coordinators and rail freight governance as well as the infrastructure requirements with sound targets and deadlines.
We believe such positive elements should remain in the final Regulation as they will address the EU’s climate change objectives and improve the competitiveness of more sustainable transport modes.
