30 by 2030 - how rail freight achieves its goals

The European rail freight sector has committed itself to the goal of 30% rail modal share by 2030.

In the following joint position paper, CER and the Rail Freight Forward coalition lay out why the rail freight sector is currently unable to deliver the aspired modal shift and identify 5 enabling, interlinked technologies which can help reverse the situation and achieve the 30% target.

The deployment of these key enabling technologies will require a coordinated, sector-wide rollout across the EU. The result will bring strong benefits for customers in terms of rail freight product quality, cost reduction, and available capacity, as well as improved working conditions.
