Rail Freight, enabling the EU’s Strategic Autonomy
Following the launch of the European Rail Manifesto 2024-2029 'On Track For Europe' in April at the European Parliament, CER organised a dinner debate on 14 May to focus on the rail freight transport aspects of the manifesto.
The CER debate 'Rail Freight, enabling the EU’s Strategic Autonomy' gathered institutional speakers from the upcoming Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the European Commission, and the European Economic and Social Committee, as well as CER members DB Cargo and Latvian Railways, and the European ports federation FEPORT.
CER Executive Director Alberto Mazzola said: "Rail freight stands as a key European partner in enabling the EU's strategic autonomy, net-zero logistics, and energy-efficient European Transport Single Market. The European Rail Manifesto 'On Track for Europe' urges the EU and its Member States to adopt a sustainable investment policy that continues to prioritise and support rail transport."
