On 1 July, the European rail sector, policymakers, and transport stakeholders gathered in Brussels for the annual CER Summer Cocktail.
Participants were addressed by MEP Andreas Schieder, who shared his vision for the future of rail transport and outlined his ongoing work in the European Parliament.
The event also provided an opportunity to hear from the new Executive Director of the European Union Agency for Railways, Oana Gherghinescu, who presented her strategic priorities and overarching vision for the Agency.
The Executive Director of CER, Alberto Mazzola, thanked all attendees and expressed his gratitude for the continued collaboration within the sector. He also took the occasion to present the priorities fro the second half of the year, including the upcoming communication on the European High-Speed Rail Network.
In this context, he presented the findings of a recent EU survey, which reveals that a significant majority of European citizens wish to travel more swiftly and conveniently between European countries, with a strong preference for high-speed rail over flying.
