Carbon pricing as a tool for delivering sustainable mobility
The European Commission's 'Fit for 55' package is expected to include a number of legislative proposals: from a new revision of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) to a number of amending directives related to energy policy. The objective is clear: a 55% reduction of EU GHG emissions by 2030. Ahead of the release, CER has produced a fact sheet describing CER's views on carbon pricing, as a tool for delivering sustainable mobility.
The Fit for 55 package must include a robust carbon pricing component and inform transport users about the consequences of their choices to effectively tackle the GHG emission gap. Railways are well on track to meet 2050 climate targets, but we must ensure that transport as a whole can cross the Green Deal finish line together.
