In case you missed it, a recording of this event is available to view below. Our thanks to all our speakers and guests for making this such  an interesting debate!

About the event

Rail is a highly efficient form of transport for both passengers and freight, which has a significant environmental benefit. Rail only accounts for 1.7% of total energy consumption in transport, though it carries 17.4% of inland freight. So how can we unlock the full potential of rail freight in Europe?

This event will explore how advances and experience with new technologies can help increase rail's freight modal share to 30% by 2030 through better use of ERTMS, digital automatic coupling, automated train operations, digital capacity management and longer/heavier trains. Panellists will address how such advances can be better reflected in policy areas - such as the revision of the Rail Freight Corridor and TEN-T Regulations - that could promote modal shift in the upcoming years, boosting the competitiveness of the rail sector while leveraging synergies with other modes.

Hosted by CER and Deutsche Bahn, in cooperation with the German Presidency of the Council of the EU
