On 27 April CER sponsored an event of the MEPs platform dedicated to rail transport Rail Forum Europe (RFE). The topic focussed on the upcoming proposal for a revision of the Train Drivers Directive (Directive 2007/59/EC).

The rail sector looks at the proposal with the hope of consolidating the current good practices of rail drivers’ working conditions, in view of creating an efficient continental job market that is fully respectful of the workers’ right, that contributes to their professional development, that ensures the efficiency and safety of all rail operations and allows for ever better services to be developed.

Hosted by RFE Chair Andrey Novakov MEP, the event was opened by European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights Nicolas Schmit and gathered Members of the European Parliament, transport trade unions (ETF) and other rail stakeholders to share their input on the important matter.
