On Track For Much More than a Market
In the recent report 'Much more than a Market', commissioned by the EU Council to assess the fitness of the EU Single Market, author Enrico Letta identifies key priorities to guarantee efficient and sustainable continent-wide mobility. European railways also have a clear vision for the strategic development of the transport sector with rail at the heart of a resilient system, as set out in their 2024-2029 policy agenda 'On Track for Europe'.
Both visions make a similar assessment of the scarcity of public budget, the need to scale-up the EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) and to explore new ways to attract private investments, the need for a functioning intermodal Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) with an adequately sized funding facility, the value of connecting European capitals and major urban hubs via high-speed rail infrastructure and developping the logistical chains that will enable Europe's net zero future.
To explore these synergies and further reflect on the future of railways and how they can help leverage the full benefits of the EU Single Market, the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (CER) and the Jacques Delors Institute are organising this joint debate in Brussels.
Hosted by Member of the European Parliament and EPP Vice-Chair Massimiliano Salini, our high-level event will feature presentations by Enrico Letta, President of the Jacques Delors Institute and Alberto Mazzola, CER Executive Director, as well as speakers from across the EU institutions.
